7th Tavern Tales in Kathmandu : “The Anugita”

Nepal Bharat Library in collaboration with Quixote’s Cove held the 7th edition of Tavern Tales in Kathmandu at Nepal Bharat Library, New Road. It featured the national poet, Madhav Ghimire, and Dr. Jadish Sharma and was about the book “Anugita.” Madhav Ghimire is Nepal’s national poet and is presently writing “Ritubhara,” where as Dr. Sharma works closely with the media.

The event featured a discussion on the book as knowledge given by Lord Krishna to Arjun after the Mahabharata war. The Anugita differs from the Bhagvatgita in that gives higher value to knowledge rather than karma or devotion. It claims that “Knowledge has neither a starting nor ending.” After the discussion, a question and answer session between the audience and guests was held. The question and answer sessions generated some good response




6th Tavern Tales in Kathmandu: Narayan Wagle in conversation with Archana Thapa

Nepal Bharat Library in collaboration with Quixote’s Cove held the 6th edition of Tavern Tales in Kathmandu at Nepal Bharat Library, New Road. It featured the author Narayan Wagle in conversation with Archana Thapa about his new book “Mayur Times.”
Narayan Wagle is the editor of Nagarik as well as the author of the bestselling book “Palpasa Café.” Archana Thapa is a free lance writer who is presently working as an editor on a new book entitled, “Telling a Tale in English.”

The event featured a discussion on the book, “Mayur Times,” between Mr. Wagle and Mrs. Thapa. The discussion covered subjects like political issue, language, and the characters present in the book. After with discussion, the event was followed by a question and answer session between the audience and the writer.




11th Taven Tales

Quixote’s Cove held its 11th Tavern Tales with Nepal’s foremost and prolific English language writer, Samrat Upadhyay, and three of his creative writing students - Alessandra Simmons, Kevin Eldridge, and Lana Spendl - from Indiana University. The event was held on 11th July 2010 at 5 pm in the bookshop located in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur.

The program featured two components, firstly how and why they write about their respective homes and hometowns and secondly, how a creative writing program would teach and tackle such an issue. The event also followed by a discussion and Q & A session.




5th Tavern Tales in Kathmandu: The Book Launch of “Buddha’s Orphans” by Samrat Upadhyay

Nepal-Bharat Library in collaboration with Quixote’s Cove held the 5th edition of Tavern Tales in Kathmandu at the Nepal-Bharat Library in New-Road on the 3rd of July 2010. It featured the lauch of Samrat Upadhyay’s book, “Buddha’s Orphans.” The launch was preceded by short talks on the book by Indian ambassador Mr. Rakesh Sood, the author Mr.Samrat Updhaya, Mr.Kanak Mani Dixit and CEO of Rupa & co. Mr. Kapish Mehera. They all talked on various aspects of the book and Samrat’s writing. Following a discussion, the book was launched by the four speakers. 
Mr.Updahya is the director of the creative writing program at Indiana University. He is the first Nepali-born fiction writer to be published in America. This is his second novel. This book is published by Rupa & Co. Mr. Dixit is the editor of Himal South Asian and the publisher of Himal Khabarpatrika and is a highly renowned journalist in South Asia. Mr. Dixit and Samrat have worked together in the past and were from the same school.
